my creative space

I've been moaning and groaning about my art block for a while now, so a friend challenged me to make a triptych, one panel for each complete decade of my life. I've had a few weeks to work on it, and it's supposed to be finished tomorrow (yikes- cross your fingers!). I keep trying to procrastinate by over-complicating things, but I'm doing my best to behave myself and stick to the deadline.

These appliques have evolved from the pattern drawings I posted about last week. I'd been thinking about pattern on pattern, and my experimental bleach discharge fabric seemed like the perfect choice.

After looking at these shapes for a while, I'm starting to see them as ladders, or spines, or maybe microscopic forms. Nothing is sewn or fused, but I'm pretty excited to see how these turn out. I have lots of ideas, and I wonder what will make it onto the fabric.

Don't forget to take a look at what's going on in other creative spaces today.

wow ~ it looks really interesting layered like that. i'd like to see it as a whole and from a distance ~ the effect would be great!

Thanks, guys! I realized I wasn't going to make the deadline, but I agreed to post progress shots until it's done, so some full-size images will be coming soon. I can't wait to hear what you think!
